Lead generation for commercial finance brokers and business lenders

How to find UK businesses that are about to borrow, and reach the owner before your competitors do. Based on Rept's campaigns for brokers and lenders.

Who you are selling to

Owners and finance directors of UK SMEs that need working capital, asset finance, invoice finance, bridging or growth funding. They rarely search for a broker on the day they need money; they act when something changes in the business. The job of outbound in this market is to notice the change first.

The buying signals that matter in this market

Rept watches ten signals across every account in a client's ideal customer profile. For this vertical, these are the ones that most reliably precede a purchase, in rough order of strength:

Messaging that gets replies

The email references the specific trigger and nothing else: the charge, the hires, the new site. It names the client broker or lender, says in one sentence what they arrange for businesses like the recipient's, and asks for a short conversation. It does not quote rates, products or terms. Rept's best-performing broker campaigns open on the observation ("you registered a charge last month") rather than the offer.

Compliance notes for this market

Classify every target by legal form: sole traders and ordinary partnerships are individual subscribers under PECR and need consent, while limited companies and LLPs can be emailed with an opt-out. Keep product terms, rates and application prompts out of cold email so nothing becomes a financial promotion that needs FCA-authorised approval. The full rules are in Rept's compliance guide.

What results look like

WSC Finance, a business finance broker, has generated 243 qualified opportunities from 156,800+ emails at a 25.6% positive reply rate since July 2025. Growth Business Finance generated 80 qualified leads from 12,896 sequences at an 18.2% positive reply rate. A third broker campaign produced £216k of pipeline from 60,566 sequences at 16.2%. A qualified opportunity is a positive reply from a decision maker at a business inside the agreed profile that meets the lead criteria in the contract.

How Rept runs it

Common questions

How do commercial finance brokers get leads?

Referrals, accountant partnerships, paid search and, increasingly, signal-triggered outbound: monitoring UK businesses for Companies House charges, filed accounts, hiring and funding signals, then emailing the owner when the signal appears. Rept runs that last channel as a managed service.

How can I use Companies House data to find businesses that need finance?

Watch the charges register and new accounts filings for your target sectors and sizes. A new charge or a balance sheet showing stock and debtor growth signals a borrowing cycle. Rept automates the monitoring, scoring and outreach.

Is cold email to business owners legal for a finance broker?

Yes to limited companies and LLPs with a clear sender and opt-out under PECR. Sole traders need consent. Keep rates and product terms out of the email so it is not a financial promotion requiring FCA-authorised approval.

What reply rate should a finance broker expect from outbound?

Rept's broker campaigns have produced 16% to 26% positive reply rates on sequences of 12,000 to 157,000 emails. Generic list-based campaigns in the sector typically produce a fraction of that.
